A beautifully illustrated, one-of-a-kind practical guide to a variety of techniques used in botanical art and illustration, over 50 ASBA artists have contributed materials to the book. This essential reference features how-to tutorials for all the major techniques, moving from basic to applied to advanced, so the reader can build on their skills as they progress. Each tutor brings their unique working style to the book, demonstrating a variety of viewpoints and methods.

Major sections of the book feature graphite, pen and ink, colored pencil, watercolor on paper, and watercolor on vellum. A variety of specialized techniques and media are touched upon, such as metalpoint, printmaking, egg tempera, and others, with tutorials by leading practitioners. Composition is covered in depth through instruction and examples to help artists understand and employ compositional principles. Timber’s design team managed more than 1000 tutor photos and their captions, along with essays and other instructional text and images, and created a beautifully designed, cohesive whole. Botanical Art Techniques is a “must-have for creative people everywhere.”
