Geranium
Pelargonium cv.
Geraniums are dependable hardy plants that rarely disappoint with their long-lasting blooms. My favorites to grow are the red ones. I love the perfect color complement of the red blooms against the green leaves. To keep the blooms coming, I remove the old flowers before they go to seed.
Last year when we returned from vacation, all my plants badly needed deadheading. While doing this, I came upon one of the pods that had twisted open. Small seeds were emerging on airy whisps. I had never seen this before and was very surprised and excited to learn something new about a plant I had grown for years! I had always assumed that the pod was the seed and since I deadhead faithfully, the plant never reached the point for the seeds to emerge. I enjoyed sharing my discovery by including the pods and seeds in this painting.
