Panicled Hydrangea II
Hydrangea paniculata
The specimen I used for the Panicle Hydrangea II was a gift from friends in September of last year. They brought a fabulous bouquet of conical panicles just beginning their fall color changes. Although I have painted the flower before in its summer form (see the 15th Annual International catalog or check the ASBA website), I couldn't resist this late season specimen. In fact, I then painted two more botanicals showing a panicle and a sprig in later dried stages.
My choice to paint the muted colors of the florets on a taupe ground reflects the fall season. I hope the painted ground also introduces a new dimension in my art that the viewer will find of interest.
