Seeds in Focus with Jonas Frei
In this session, Swiss Photographer Jonas Frei will present his work at the intersection of botany and visual documentation. Focusing on seeds, nuts, and plant structures, he uses macro photography and focus-stacking techniques to reveal morphological details which is often visible to the naked eye. Drawing from his extensive, cataloged collection of plant specimens, Frei contextualizes his images with data on species, origin, and classification.This lecture will explore seeds and their biology, focusing on their diversity, taxonomy, and unique modes of dispersal.
About Jonas Frei
Jonas Frei is trained in landscape architecture and ecology, with a strong artistic focus on landscapes and the creatures that inhabit them. His work centers on botany and biology, delving into ecosystems, biodiversity, and natural variation. He presents botanical and often thought-provoking content in an aesthetically accessible way—designed to spark curiosity and reflection rather than instruct.. His current work places particular emphasis on plants and seeds—the dormant, in-between stages of botanical life.
